Put Brush Hour on a TV, tablet or laptop. Friends scan the code and steer a paintbrush with their phone. Whoever covers the most canvas in 90 seconds wins.

Six brushes painting colourful trails across a linen canvas during a Brush Hour game

How it works

  1. Open the game on a big screen

Go to brushhour.app/host on a TV, tablet or laptop. A room code and QR code appear.

  2. Everyone joins with their phone

Scan the QR code, type a name, done. Each player gets their own colour. Add bots for empty spots.

  3. Paint!

Hold the left or right side of your phone to steer. Bump into someone and you both go flying. Grab presents for power-ups. Most canvas after 90 seconds wins.

The phone controller: hold the left or right half of the screen to steer
Your phone becomes a two-button controller.

Questions

Do players need to install an app?

No. Players scan the QR code on the big screen (or go to brushhour.app and type the room code) and play in their phone's browser. No app and no account.

What do I need to play?

One screen everyone can see – a TV, tablet, laptop or projector with a modern web browser – and a phone per player. Phones and the screen need an internet connection.

How many people can play?

1 to 8 players. Empty spots can be filled with computer players in three difficulty levels: easy, normal and hard.

Is Brush Hour free?

Yes, Brush Hour is free to play, with no ads and no accounts.

Can friends join from somewhere else?

Yes. Anyone with the room code can join, on the same Wi-Fi or over mobile data. It's designed for people in the same room looking at one screen, though.

Can I play alone, or without a phone?

Yes. Play solo on a laptop, desktop or tablet against computer players, with the arrow keys or by pointing with the mouse or your finger. In a party game, someone at the big screen can also join with the keyboard or mouse (“Play here” in the lobby).

Do you track players?

No. There are no cookies, accounts or ads. We only count games anonymously – for example how many rounds are played, how many players take part and what kind of screen is used – without storing names or IP addresses.

Can I install it?

Yes. The big-screen page and the phone controller are both progressive web apps: use your browser's Install option to add them to a tablet, TV box, laptop or phone.

Ready when you are

Open it on the biggest screen in the room and hand out the code.
